Another great time at the Alma Music and Arts Festival. The weather went from questionable in the morning to beautiful by days end. With the help of my daughter, Elle, for the first few hours and my wife Allison the remainder of the afternoon it was both fun and profitable. See you there next year!
The kettle is loaded up and ready to travel to Port Washington, WI for the annual Maritime Heritage Festival. My wife, Allison, and I will be first timers at this event which celebrates Port Washington's history. Situated on Wisconsin's "East Coast" we will make the coast-to-coast trip from the Mississippi River bluff region we live in to the shores of Lake Michigan.
"Experience a celebration of all things that have made our community a historic lakefront destination. The Maritime Heritage Festival is an award-winning event featuring the tall ship, Peacemaker, a Coast Guard Rescue Boat and working Army Corps of Engineers Tugs and Barges, restored and handcrafted wooden boats, an Artisan's Marketplace, educational and historic activities and displays, live music and entertainment, guided/interactive harbor tours, children's activities including "Coastie" the Coast Guard robot, food/beverage court, water safety/awareness exhibits, a Ferris Wheel located for the first time at Coal Dock Park and and the 4th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. This year we are proud to have the Land Regatta Run/Walk making its debut. A great deal more than a traditional maritime festival, we invite you to experience our rich heritage through an exciting blend of sights, sounds, tastes and activities. What a weekend in Kasson, MN! Great weather once again made for a memorable event. Saturday was an amazing day. Working solo I broke my single day sales record by over $200! The kettle kept popping batch after batch of superb kettle corn. I had the good fortune of seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and spending some time with my youngest sister who lives in Kasson. Another event I look forward to returning to next year when Kasson celebrated it's 150th anniversary.
Absolutely fantastic weekend of blues music at Blues on the Chippewa in Durand. Sales were great, the people were generous and the vibe was super! Count me in for next year and then some. My wife, Allison, and I worked together on Sunday. She always brings her flair for design, people skills and a willingness to WORK to each and every event she attends. Thanks to her we were able to enjoy the amazing voice of Kelley Hunt from Kansas City, MO. She and her band really got the crowd moving!
Blues on the Chippewa coming up this weekend. The kettle will be on-location offering kettle corn to attendees on Saturday Aug 2nd and Sunday Aug 3rd. Looking forward to a weekend of great local, regional and national blues musicians in lil' ol' Durand, WI. And the free will donation admission provides supplemental funding for the Pepin County Food Pantry & Brent Titus Music for Children Program!
I took the kettle on a solo run to make kettle corn in the Driftless Area of SW Wisconsin for the 4th of July holiday. What a beautiful day! With the persistent rain wed have had this Spring and Summer it was great to have a couple days of dry and mild weather which culminated on the 4th. I underestimated the citizenry of Ontario, Pop. 500+, and their passion for kettle corn. From Noon until 6 pm it was busy busy! I actually ran out of popcorn before the fireworks which was a real bummer. That and the detour I had to take on the way there, which added about an extra hour to the 2.5 hour trip, where the only downsides to what was a fun day.
I am really pleased to be making kettle corn for the upcoming Garden Fair 2014. This is taking place May 31 from 9:30a - 3:30 p at the Rochester, MN History Center. Admission is free if you bring a non-perishable food item, paper supplies or cleaning product.
Time for me to come out of hibernation and make some kettle corn this weekend. On the event calendar for the Kettle Corn House is a return visit to the Driftless Area of SW Wisconsin. The Kickapoo Valley Reserve is a unique destination created through the collaborative efforts of the State of Wisconsin and the Ho Chunk Nation. The annual KVR Winter Festival is located near La Farge, WI - home of Organic Valley, the largest organic farming cooperative in the U.S.A.
The festival is Saturday, January 12th. Hours are 9 a.m. - 4:30 pm. Click on the Winter Festival logo below to see the calendar of events and activities planned for the day. Dog sledding, archery, xc-skiing, skating, sledding, chilli cook-off, silent auction, presentations in the Visitors Center and more are all part of the planned activities. Join us for a day of fun in the snow!
The Kettle Korn House will be bagging and selling kettle corn on-location for the 10th annual Alma Music and Arts Festival. Situated in the town park along the banks of the Mississippi River the festival will feature music all day, art and food from area musicians, artists and vendors. Our first time at the event because the KKH is usually at the Shawano County Fair during Labor Day weekend. I miss being in Shawano but I don't miss the long drive and the long six day event. Bring on the bands and let's have a good time closer to home. http://www.almawisconsin.com/events/musicartsfestival.html
UPDATE: Beautiful weather and good attendance made for a great day in Alma. After a crazy busy day at the MN State Fair the day before it was a sweet to slow down and a day by the river. The bands that played were really entertaining and I met some other vendors that I hope to see again somewhere down the road. If nothing else maybe at the 2013 Music and Arts Festival.
My daughter, Elle, and I will be making and selling kettle corn as first-time vendors at the Kasson Festival in the Park this weekend. In a matter of minutes I will transform from my regular weekday job as a Customer Service Rep. in the mail room at IBM-Rochester to the Kettle Korn House Kettle Meister. Tonight they will be showing Cars 2 at dusk as part of the festival so I will try and get the kettle corn stand set-up and running in time to have kettle corn available for sale to movie goers. The weather forecast for tonight and Saturday looks good. Sunday could be questionable with a chance of rain. Kasson is small community approximately 20 miles due West of Rochester.
